refugees{code} is a non-profit association and offers refugees a program to develop coding and software development skills.

Mission

We support refugees in getting qualified jobs, as well as enabling persons entitled to asylum status to lead a self-determined life.

Stefan is the initiator of refugees{code}. He knows everything and he’s got a tight grip at refugees{code} and all its participants. Even though coming from the private sector, the education sector is where he fits in just perfectly. Additionally to his intricate understanding of economics, meanwhile, he’s also starting to code himself.

Daniela’s career so far has been just as varyied and diverse as she is herself. From managing and rearranging shelfs to installing ATM-machines, from working in newsrooms to becoming a department head of a distance college, she’s bringing a lot of experience to the table. It is her motivation, goal-oriented and analytical point of view, which make  her indispensable.

Having studied at five universities in four countries, Alex has well explored the higher education world. Apart from setting up an innovative and scalable coding curriculum, he has created the Lingophant Mobile App, a tool for language learners. With his empathetic and calm demeanor he’s not just convincing our partners.

Nadina is working not only with international and intercultural leaders and teams, she also shares her vast expertise with us and our students. Together with our participants, she focuses on recognizing talents, exploring potentials and possibilities, elaborating effective strategies, implementing acquired competencies and awakening joy of the effective (self-) leadership.

Operations & Finance

Being extremely versatile quickly made Florian become the leader of operations. If it ever happens that there’s something that he can’t do, it’s only a matter of days until he can. Besides his grasp of economics, he also has an intuitive talent for marketing. Moreover, he could tell our participant’s schedules if you’d wake him in the middle of the night.

Web Development

Stefan joined us by the end of September 2016. He is responsible for the setup and maintenance of our website. Studying Business Informatics, Stefan knows how to stay focused and how to balance study, work, and his volunteering responsibilities at refugees{code}. With his calm and polite personality it is impossible to imagine us without him.

After extended stays in several countries in Europe as well as the USA, Milena has landed in Austria, supporting us with her calm, focused and always competent personality. She’s a wizard when it comes to organizing events. Apart from her active support in managing Hackathons, she is also supporting us in Project Management. A most dependable and responsible person.

Data Collection

Sabi is the refugees{code}’s result enforcer, who is always ready to provide help, whenever needed. Born digital native, she simultaneously manages all participants’ data and evaluates them during the courses. We are glad that she shares our vision and highly appreciate that she is always open for new responsibilities.

During our Intake #1, the native Syrian Adnan took his first steps as a programmer. What is more, he ambitiously contributed his knowledge and became our software development master. As a participant in every coding session, no one knows the needs of our participants better than he does! We are delighted that Adnan is part of our team and supports us with his expertise.

Even at her tender age, the young Viennese with Albanian roots is already showing tons of talent when it comes to communication. Besides being gifted in holding the team together and entangle its members in social activities, she has a talent for words and writing, too. For us, this happy soul with the eagle eyes and open ears has become indispensable.

Nisreen joined us after graduating from our program. Together with Adnan, she knows the needs of our participants better than anybody, especially since she can offer female perspective. As the connecting link between the programming tutors and our participants she knows the score. We are delighted that Nisreen supports us and say thank you!

Guillermo embodies what it means to be a programming teacher, a team player and a role model of our core values. He genuinely cares for the well-being of our participants. He goes above and beyond to help our participants and cater to their needs. Not only is he very knowledgeable when it comes to programming, but he is very experienced as well. Guillermo plays a big part in our day to day operations where programming is the top priority!

Head of Administration & Organisation

Daryl’s path had stages in project management for big events like “chancenreich”, and in overall communication for events, before finally leading us into our arms. As a link between management and organization, she knows what’s going on. She has a great amount of experience and considerable knowledge in the field of pedagogics. Sincere and kind, but persistent and determinded as well, she’s got us under control. She’s a great asset for refugees{code}, especially when it comes to creating structure.
